Last weekend my husband and I along with two friends of mine had the opportunity to check out a really cool and fairly new restaurant in Pinecrest called Peppers. Peppers for those of you who don’t know is an authentic Mexican restaurant that serves everything from burritos to tacos to traditional specialty dishes and fried ice cream! Since I am a huge fan of Mexican food I am constantly searching for colorful/funky Mexican spots in Miami that have a really unique atmosphere and fresh authentic food. Luckily, I found one of those spots at Peppers because not only is their food amazing and fresh but as soon as you walk in you’ll find the coolest bar area, colorful vibrant walls and seats along with some funky skeletal art which is what makes it so different from other places that I’ve been to.
To start off, all four of us ordered Horchata which is a traditional milky drink that is made from ground almonds, tiger nuts, or rice and is topped with cinnamon. I absolutely loved the Horchata at Peppers because it was very tasty and refreshing! Our waitress then brought us some homemade totopos (tortilla chips) and salsa which were so good and addicting that we kept on ordering more of it. Both salsas had such a good flavor to them because they tasted so fresh and weren’t spicy.
For the appetizer we all shared the Queso Fundido con chorizo which is a dip made with melted Mexican cheeses, dark beer, and spicy chorizo and is served with chips or warm soft tortillas. Let me just say that this appetizer is a must when visiting Peppers! The melted cheese was so delicious and the chorizo gave it such a burst of flavor that it’s honestly one of the best appetizers that I have ever had and I promise you won’t be disappointed if you try it!
As for the main entrees my husband ordered the South Beach Chicken Fajitas and my friends ordered the South Beach Steak Fajitas and Enchiladas with mole sauce which looked absolutely delicious and I had the Carne Asada Tampiquena which is a marinated skirt steak with 2 cheese enchiladas.
My plate was very good because besides the steak and enchiladas it also brought salad, spanish rice, and refried beans so the portion size was more than enough. The marinated steak was my favorite part of the dish because it was juicy, tender, and super soft when I cut into it plus, it did not lack any flavor at all and was well done just the way I like it! The cheese enchiladas were cooked perfect because they were soft and you could taste the melted cheese with the creamy tomatillo sauce and sour cream. For the refried beans I was expecting it to have a different texture to it from what I was used to but nonetheless it was very good along with the Spanish rice.
Last but not least, for dessert we ordered the Fried ice cream because that is a must to try every time I’m in a Mexican restaurant. To be honest, I wasn’t so crazy about this ice cream because I felt as if the fried shell needed to have more flavor to it and needed to be a little more crunchier but it wasn’t bad at all. However, the next time I visit I would probably order something else instead like the Churros con chocolate.

Overall, I really enjoyed the food there and was impressed with the quality and portions of the dishes. However, what really made our experience special at Peppers Pinecrest was the great customer service because both the manager and waitress were attentive to our table and were very welcoming and friendly. If you have never been to Peppers and love Mexican food like I do then I highly recommend for you to check it out! It’s a casual and cool place to have a good satisfying lunch with friends!
