Two weeks ago my dear friend Franccesca the creator behind SouthFlo with Fran hosted her second annual Galentine’s Event for a small and intimate group of girls at The New River Cafe and Bakery in Downtown Fort Lauderdale. The event was called “Bubbles and Buttercream” and consisted of sparkling drinks, delicious sweet and savory bites, and a super fun and relaxing bento cake decorating class!
I honestly have to start off by saying that this was one of the BEST events that I’ve ever been to not only because it was fun but because everything was just so perfectly thought out, planned, and executed. When I arrived at the event, I immediately fell in love with all of the details and was in complete awe of the decor and setup.
There was a beautiful and delicious food spread waiting for us along with the prettiest Galentine’s theme table setup for our cake decorating session. There were so many mouthwatering bites to choose from such as a prosciutto and fig board, lobster rolls (my absolute favorite!), tuna poke cones, caprese phyllo tartlets, macarons, double fudge brownies, petite cakes, white chocolate panna cotta with strawberry mint compote along with hot tea that was served in the prettiest chinaware.
In addition to all of this, we also got to try some amazing mini paninis as well which is one of the cafe’s most popular menu items and we each received the cutest personalized cookie with our names on it saying, Will You Be My Galentine? Talk about attention to details!
After enjoying our tasty bites and drinks it was time for the main event, cake decorating! This class was actually the very first official one to take place at The New River Cafe and Bakery and it was taught by the incredibly talented Executive Pastry Chef and General Manager of the Cafe, Sabrina Courtemanche. It was super exciting getting to learn some cake decorating techniques from Chef Sabrina and see her in action because she was actually the first-place winner of Netflix’s Sugar Rush Christmas Season 1 Episode 1! Plus, she is currently a participant that is competing on Food Network’s Spring Baking Championship Season 10 which airs on March 4th which is super exciting!
I had the honor and pleasure of meeting her during the event and I can honestly say that her cakes and food were beyond incredible! Something that I wanted to mention was that Pre-Event we had each picked out our favorite cake flavor and filling from ten different options along with our favorite color scheme. For my cake I selected Pink Velvet as the cake flavor with a White Chocolate filling and a very pretty pink color scheme that I still can’t get over how delicious it was!
Overall, I really enjoyed the class and event and had such a relaxing and fun time with all of the ladies! I absolutely loved the experience and how all of the cakes turned out including mines which I thought wasn’t too bad considering it was my first time decorating a cake.
I left very impressed by Chef Sabrina to the point that I can’t wait to return to her cafe to try out some of her other menu items and most likely take another cake decorating class too! I highly recommend her class for those who are looking for something unique, relaxing, and different to do with family and friends whether it’s just to have fun or celebrate a special occasion. She will start offering cake decorating classes moving forward so make sure to visit her website http://www.newrivercafeandbakery.com to check for any upcoming events/updates and also make sure to follow her on social media at @newrivercafebakery and @flpastrylife !
** A special thank you to my lovely friend Franccesca for inviting me to this special Galentine’s Event and to Chef Sabrina of New River Cafe and Bakery for hosting us! **
